BYD has officially launched the Seal electric sedan in European markets, bringing its Tesla Model 3 competitor to a wider audience. The Seal features innovative Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology, integrating the battery pack directly into the vehicle structure for improved rigidity and interior space.
Key Specifications
The European-spec BYD Seal comes in two variants: a rear-wheel-drive version with 230 kW (313 hp) and an all-wheel-drive performance model producing 390 kW (530 hp). The AWD variant can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.
Both variants feature an 82.5 kWh Blade Battery pack, offering WLTP ranges of up to 570 km for the RWD model and 520 km for the AWD version.
European Pricing
The RWD variant starts at approximately EUR 44,900, while the AWD performance model is priced from EUR 50,990. This undercuts the Tesla Model 3 by several thousand euros while offering comparable or superior specifications.
Market Impact
Industry analysts expect the Seal to significantly impact the European EV market, representing a serious challenge to established players like Tesla, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz.
