After owning my 2024 BYD Song Pro DM-i for more than two years, the average electricity consumption has remained stable at 7.4 kWh/100 km, while fuel consumption is only 2.1 L/100 km. Honestly, for such a large SUV, the running cost has been surprisingly low.
My daily commute is about 30 km round trip, so I mostly drive it as a pure EV. I have a home charger, and nighttime off-peak electricity only costs around RMB 0.3 per kWh. That means the electricity cost is just about RMB 2.2 per 100 km — roughly RMB 0.02 per kilometer.
I only use gasoline for weekend family trips or occasional highway driving, and even with a low battery, the fuel consumption is still very impressive. Overall, the total driving cost is around RMB 0.19 per kilometer, which is honestly cheaper than taking public transportation.
With a full tank and full battery, the car can easily travel over 1,000 km, so there’s basically no range anxiety. In the city, driving on electricity is quiet and smooth, while long-distance trips with fuel power eliminate charging concerns.
BYD has really mastered the balance between low running costs and everyday convenience with its DM-i hybrid technology.
