Real user review of the 2025 BYD Song L DM

The exterior isn’t particularly stylish, nor is it unconventional – it’s relatively understated. The interior doesn’t have any design features that stand out as particularly ingenious, and there’s room for improvement. For example, the instrument cluster doesn’t look as good as the one in the Song Plus.

The cabin space is very spacious, but the trunk is quite small – almost 100 liters smaller than the Song Plus.

Regarding the driver assistance system: I used it for nearly 200 km on the highway. During the day, it worked decently, but there were some recognition issues in certain scenarios that often gave me a fright.

The powertrain performance is excellent. Even at 130 km/h on the highway, it doesn’t feel strained, and overtaking is crisp and effortless.

The chassis tuning is very well suited for long family road trips. When driving over undulating surfaces, it handles with poise and there’s little to no sudden weightlessness sensation.

As for navigation: because the smart driving system partners with Baidu, it defaults to Baidu Maps. You can install the Auto version of Amap (Gaode), but its functionality is limited.

The infotainment system is fairly smooth. There’s a quick gesture for the air conditioning that allows blind operation – that’s a thumbs-up.

The built-in ETC isn’t very sensitive. I failed to trigger it at a toll booth, which was quite frustrating
